Primary lip closure
Depending on the width of the cleft, a unilateral
schisis may be closed using one of 2 techniques.
The nostril on the affected side will be taken in at the
same time. The goal is to create a nose that is as symmetrical as possible. We
have a third technique for the bilateral schisis cleft.

Here too the nostrils are brought in. In principle,
lip closure can occur shortly after birth. The child?s general condition must be
good enough for the operation to take place. In consultation with the
pediatrician, the decision is sometimes made to wait a few weeks before
operating.
